Schuyler Tutt

Principal Architect

Schuyler is a Founding Partner at B&G and a licensed architect in Washington State. Although born in Portland, he grew up experiencing a wide range of cultures as part of a military family, most memorably living in Okinawa, Japan, where he was entranced by the island’s vibrant culture, unique wildlife, and stunning coastlines. Schuyler earned his degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, expanding his education through study abroad in London and travel throughout Europe and Egypt. His studio work at UNL centered on the physical craft and realization of design, developing skills in woodworking, welding, fiberglass fabrication, and hand-built furniture.

For Schuyler, the most rewarding aspect of architecture lies in the complex problem-solving required to bring a vision to life. He is driven by the goal of creating spaces of personal sanctuary that are accessible to everyone, believing deeply in the power of good design to positively shape our neighborhoods and cities. His approach is inspired by defining precedents like the Rietveld House in Utrecht, Netherlands, admired for its architectural composition and expression through lines, planes, and voids, and its holistic design that considers the 360° impact of a building. If he could sit down for coffee with any architect, it would be Richard Neutra, whose work embodies Schuyler’s own values: a dedication to well-being through design, the seamless connection between built and natural environments, the integration of passive and technological systems, and thoughtful attention to human scale.

When he isn’t working, Schuyler stays active by exploring the outdoors through hiking and camping, traveling the world, and producing and mixing electronic music. At home, Schuyler and his husband, Sean, put their vision and fabrication skills to work by personally remodeling their house in Phinney Ridge. They often escape the rainy PNW winters spending time in Palm Springs, CA, and explore local parks with their dog, Milo.
