Jen Kim
Principal Architect
Jen grew up in Spokane, Washington, and earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Washington. Her education extended beyond the traditional studio, including a quarter studying in Ahmedabad, India, where she collaborated with architecture students from CEPT University. She also participated in a graduate design-build studio in Xochitepec, Mexico, helping design and construct a rehabilitation center—an experience that reinforced her commitment to architecture’s ability to strengthen communities.
As a founding partner of B&G and a licensed architect in Washington, Jen is dedicated to creating thoughtful, enduring places that enrich everyday life. While iconic buildings often define the public perception of architecture, she believes the profession’s greatest impact lies in the spaces people experience daily—from homes and neighborhoods to workplaces and community gathering places. She approaches each project with the goal of balancing design excellence, functionality, and a deep understanding of how people interact with the built environment.
Outside the office, Jen enjoys reading, traveling, photography, and cheering on Seattle’s sports teams. Her commitment to service has also taken her around the world, leading Habitat for Humanity build teams in El Salvador, Thailand, and Kenya—experiences that continue to shape her perspective on leadership, collaboration, and the transformative power of thoughtful design.
One of Jen’s favorite buildings is the Oslo Opera House, whose seamless integration of architecture, landscape, and public space exemplifies the kind of civic design she admires. She is particularly inspired by the way the building appears to emerge from the water, inviting visitors to experience its architecture as part of the surrounding landscape.
